Suez Canal Faces Transit Delays After Tanker Collision

Ships transiting the Suez Canal continue to face slight delays on 24 August after the collision of an LNG tanker and an oil products tanker earlier this week, several shipping executives said.

  • There are 49 and 46 ships respectively in the 24 August south bound and north bound convoy and minor disruptions are happening in the traffic schedule, the executive said.
  • A tanker carrying LNG suffered mechanical issues on Tuesday night and ran aground while passing through the Egyptian canal. A second tanker then crashed into the broken-down vessel. The vessels have since then been refloated.
