STOCKS: The major regional Asia-Pac equity markets have shown a mixed reaction
to Thursday's trade war headlines, with Wall St. providing a marginally negative
lead.
- News flow has been sparse during the Asia-Pac session.
- Japan's upper house of parliament approved legislation that will provide
greater scrutiny of foreign investment into businesses which are deemed to be
related to national security, as was expected after the law moved through the
lower house in recent weeks.
- Australia's financial sector was near neutral, with Westpac lagging after the
recent legal developments surrounding the banking giant.
- Chinese equities gave back their early gains and more, underperforming on the
session, with a continued focus on targeted stimulus from policymakers evident.
- Nikkei 225 +0.5%, Hang Seng +0.2%, CSI 300 -0.8%, ASX 200 +0.5%.
- S&P 500 futures +4, DJIA futures +34, NASDAQ 100 futures +20.
