FOREX: The USD came under renewed pressure on Tuesday after President Trump
fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
- USDJPY held firm ahead of US CPI, but was quick to pare gains after the
release was inline with exp., slightly under the whisper number.
- GBP benefitted from the broader pressure on USD & also garnered support from a
more upbeat economic assessment in the UK Spring Statement, although GBPUSD ran
out of steam on the approach to 1.40. EURGBP eased to lows of 0.8851 but
remained well supported ahead of the 100-DMA (0.8849).
- EURUSD briefly moved above 1.2400 before pulling back.
- AUDUSD had a look at 0.7900 before fading, while the NZD outperformed its
Antipodean cousin.
- CAD experienced weakness on the back of comments from BoC Gov. Poloz who
sounded a little more cautious as he stressed the BoC's data-dependant stance,
with USDCAD surging above 1.2900.
