Timeline on Possible LNG Industrial Action in Australia

LNG

Important dates for possible industrial action at Australian LNG facilities:

  • On 23 August Woodside will hold new discussions with the unions. If the disputes are not resolved by the end of that day, workers have endorsed giving the company notice that staff will go ahead with industrial action as soon as 2 September.
  • On 24 August a ballot of workers at Chevron’s Gorgon and Wheatstone downstream facilities is expected to be finalized by 3pm Perth time. (GMT+8)
  • On August 28 voting of Wheatstone platform workers is expected to be finalized.
  • On 2 September industrial action could begin at Woodside’s North West Shelf if the talks are not resolved by 23 August.
  • However, even if an agreement is not reached by 23 August and strike notice is given to Woodside, it is still possible an agreement is reached before the start of strike action, averting any potential halt to LNG exports, Goldman Sachs said in a note.
