RUSSIA: Trump Says Meeting With Putin is Being Arranged

  • President-elect Donald Trump said a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is being set up, Bloomberg report. The incoming president told a reporter that Putin “wants to meet” and added, “we’re gonna — we’re setting it up.” Any such meeting, were it to happen, would come after he’s inaugurated as president, Trump said.
  • Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin said he would be talking with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping by phone soon. Putin made the comment on Thursday during a government meeting held by video conference and broadcast on Russian state television.
  • GDP grew by 4% in the first 11 months of 2024 and growth for the year will amount to 3.9-4%, the economy ministry estimates. However, in 2025, “experts” who spoke to Vedomosti newspaper forecast growth will slow dramatically and investment might fall amid the cooling of lending due to high interest rates, sanctions and the reduction of the budget deficit.
