TURKEY: Chinese Envoy Criticizes Turkey’s “Protectionist Measures”

- Chinese Ambassador Liu Shaobin has described Turkey’s measures against Chinese car imports as “discriminatory protectionist measures” and claims they violate World Trade Organization rules, Ekonomi report. “They have not only harmed Turkish consumers, but also impacted the confidence of Chinese businesses to invest in Turkey and had negative effects on bilateral cooperation,” the envoy says.
- President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has spoken by phone with US president-elect Donald Trump to discuss cooperation between the two countries, the presidency said. Erdogan "congratulated Trump on his election victory" and "expressed his desire to develop cooperation between Turkey and the United States in the period ahead", it said in a statement cited by AFP.
- Local focus this week shifts to the presentation of the CBRT’s Inflation Report on Friday. Officials are targeting 38% inflation at the end of the year, though this is seen as an optimistic outlook by markets, with sell-side estimates for year-end inflation closer to the mid-40s.
