STOCKS: U.S. equity index futures were under pressure from the re-open (with vol
dampening measures enacted by CME) after news hit that a Huawei executive was
detained in Canada owing to breaches of Iranian sanctions, with the U.S. seeking
her extradition. Some have questioned whether this will be a longer lasting
issue as the arrest took place on Saturday. Trade rhetoric between the U.S. &
China has of course improved since then. Dow last 360 points worse off, S&P 36
points lower & the NASDAQ sits 115 points below settlement.
- This spilled over into the Asia-Pacific equity space, with the Nikkei 225 2.5%
worse off at writing, the Hang Seng trading 2.6% lower, the CSI 300 1.6% shy of
yesterday's close (worth noting that S&P Dow Jones is to add some China A-shares
to its global indices), while the ASX trades 0.5% lower.
