UK Foreign Sec: 'We Are Offering Expertise In Solving Grain Crisis'

Speaking alongside her Turkish counterpart in Ankara, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss states that the UK is offering 'expertise in solving the grain crisis'. Adds that the crisis has to be dealt with 'in the next month', as if it is not ‘it could lead to huge world hunger'. Said that she and Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu had discussed 'practical solutions' to the issue.

  • Also stated that Ukrainian ports must be protected and there must be safe passage for ships.
  • Turkey seen as an important go-between with Moscow, despite being a NATO member. On Wednesday the Russian and Turkish foreign ministries announced that they would be holding talks on creating a potential safe sea corridor in the Black Sea to allow the export of grain from Ukrainian ports. A Turkish-flagged ship was also allowed to leave the Russian-held port of Mariupol, the first to do so since the invasion in February.
