UK GfK Consumer Confidence in January was firmly below consensus at -22 (vs -18 consensus, -17 in Dec). This fall more than reverses the past two consecutive monthly rises and takes the print to its lowest level since Dec 2023.

  • All 5 subcomponents declined. In particular, 'General Economic Situation over the next 12 months' reading fell 8 points to -34.
  • The Savings Index (which is not included in the calculation of the overall index score) rose 9 points to 30.
  • The survey was conducted among a sample of 2007 individuals between January 2nd and January 16th 2025.
