US December Diesel Exports to Europe on Track for Record

DIESEL

US diesel exports to Europe reached 437kbpd so far this month, more than double the rate than in November and on track for a new record, as delays at Panama Canal weigh on trade to the west coast of South America according to Kpler data, cited by Bloomberg.

  • Transatlantic exports are surging as increasingly tighter transit restrictions at the Panama Canal make shipments to countries including Peru and Chile lengthier and more costly.
  • The shipping rate for the Chilean route through Panama surged to a record of $4.6 million in late-November, Argus Media data showed.
  • Simultaneously, US refiners are trying to prevent excess supply from building on the USGC after refineries are returning from seasonal maintenance and producers have incentives to minimize their taxable fuel inventory at the end of the year.
