US to Approve E15 Gasoline Expansion from 2025: Reuters

OIL PRODUCTS

The Biden administration will approve a request from several Midwest states to allow year-round sales of gasoline containing 15% ethanol, according to Reuters.

  • The start-date will likely be pushed to 2025. However, the EPA had originally sent a final rule on the proposal in Dec with an effective data of April 28, 2024, Reuters said.
  • Sources said the delay to 2025 was to prevent potential price spikes due to supply issues before the Presidential election in November.
  • Under the plan, the administration would grant the request made in 2022 for year-round E15 gasoline sales in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
  • The EPA could also issue a temporary waiver in the interim to enable such sales as needed.
  • The decision is expected to be issued by late March.
  • Sales of E15 are restricted in the summer due to environmental issues around smog.
