ENERGY
The US is “laser-focused” on ensuring Russia cannot develop any new energy projects that would give the country future export revenues, Geoffrey Pyatt, Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, told the FT Commodities Global Summit, cited by Bloomberg.
- Sanctions on Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 liquefied natural gas project have been effective with the US goal to ensure that the project is “dead in the water”.
- While not able to predict future sanctions, Pyatt said that Washington seeks “to drive down Russian export revenue as fast as possible to hold Putin accountable for the war in Ukraine.
- Regarding attacks on Russia’s refineries, Pyatt said that while the US doesn’t enable Ukraine’s attacks inside Russia, “Ukraine is in a war of self-defence”.
