USDCAD Hovers Near Latest Lows With CAD CPI On Horizon

CANADA
  • USDCAD at 1.3370 keeps to the day’s narrow ranges and close to yesterday’s low of 1.3350.
  • The trend outlook remains bearish, with support seen at 1.3320 (Aug 4 low) after which lies 1.3283 (76.4% retrace of Jul 14 – Nov 1 bull phase).
  • Today sees light dockets for both USD and CAD legs, leaving headlines/flow more likely in the driving seat. 5Y GoC supply leads the local session over lower tier data with weekly consumer confidence (0800ET) and investment in building construction for Oct (0830ET). Greater focus is on tomorrow’s CPI release.
  • Latest CFTC data for futures positioning showed CAD net shorts trimmed from 29% to 26% of OI for Dec 12, the smallest since late Oct having peaked at 34% in mid-Nov.
