Bear Steepening Ahead Of Jackson Hole

US TSYS SUMMARY

Treasuries are a little weaker, with little news /data driving as most attention is on the Jackson Hole symposium beginning Thursday.

  • Sep 10-Yr futures (TY) bouncing around session lows, down 7/32 on the day at 139-3 (L: 139-00.5 / H: 139-09)
  • Some bear steepening in the curve: The 2-Yr yield is up 0.9bps at 0.1583%, 5-Yr is up 1.6bps at 0.3092%, 10-Yr is up 2.4bps at 0.7079%, and 30-Yr is up 2.4bps at 1.4174%.
  • Last scheduled Fed speaker prior to Powell Thurs morning is Richmond Fed's Barkin, who appears twice today (1000ET and 1200ET). We'll be putting out a Jackson Hole (namely, Powell's speech) today.
  • Jul prelim durable goods orders at 0830 is the data highlight.
  • Fairly heavy day of supply: we get $55B in 105-/154-day bills at 1130ET, with 2-Yr FRN ($22B) and 5-Yr note ($51B) at 1300ET. NY Fed buys ~$2.425B in TIPS.
