What to Watch: Genscape, EIA & WTI Expiry

ENERGY
  • The latest Genscape European ARA crude inventories will be released today at 09:00BST. Stocks fell the previous week well below the 5 year range last week to 51.83mbbls. The average for this time of year is 57.8mbbls.
  • The EIA weekly petroleum inventory data is due for release this afternoon at 15:30BST. API data last night suggested small draws in crude and distillates and a big draw in gasoline. The draws would add to the already low stocks levels, especially for distillates and suggest there could be a recovery in EIA implied gasoline demand after recent weakness. Expectation is for the EIA to report a small draw in crude and gasoline but a build in distillates.
  • Also due today is the Sep22 WTI option expiry against the 19:30BST future close price. Current open interest shows large interest at both the 85$/bbl and 90$/bbl strikes with open volume weighted towards the puts.
  • The latest update to the Jodi world oil database is due today as the market tries to understand the balance between demand reduction from the global economy against the slightly easing supply picture.
