ENERGY: What to Watch: Rig Counts & COT

  • The latest Baker Hughes rig count data is due for release at 13:00ET.  The US oil rig count last week fell to 478 and the gas rig count fell back to the lowest since September at 98.
  • The ICE and Nymex commitments of traders reports are due for release after the close today at 18:30GMT and 15:30ET. Funds have raised bullish oil positioning since early December as the combined Brent and WTI position rose to the highest since May last week. Funds also increased net long ICE Gasoil positions to the highest since July while the Nymex diesel net short was the least bearish since July.
