White House Backs Away from Potential Gas Export Ban

The Biden Administration has ruled out a ban or curbs on US natural gas exports this winter according to Reuters sources involved in the discussions saying the threat to do so has never reached serious levels.

  • US gas exports have soared this year, supporting Europe in particular to try and move away from Russian flows.
  • US gas inventories are at historically low levels and a harsh winter and increasing costs may tests Biden’s resolve the sources said.
  • The Biden Administration had touted similar measures on oil products earlier in the year when gasoline prices surged above $5/gallon but backtracked after they subsided.
