Zloty On Defensive, New Gov't Installed

EUR/PLN has inched higher and last deals +33 pips at 4.3306, with bulls seeking recovery past the 20-EMA, which intersects at 4.3538. On the downside, losses past Dec 5 low of 4.3163 and Mar 4, 2020 low of 4.2870 could revive bearish impetus. When this is being typed, the zloty underperforms both its CE3 peers.

  • Donald Tusk has been sworn in as Poland's Prime Minister before heading for the EU summit. Meanwhile, the Left requested the dismissal of Sejm Deputy Speaker Krzysztof Bosak of the far-right Confederation party. Law and Justice lawmaker Jacek Sasin said that his party is leaning towards backing the request.
  • In the absence of local data releases, the focus turns to the Fed rate decision, with a stand-pat outcome widely expected. Note that the rate cuts delivered by the NBP in September and October brought Poland's key policy rate to 5.75%, significantly reducing the premium over US interest rates.
