White House Confirms PM Draghi To Visit DC On 10 May

ITALY

The White House has confirmed that Italian PM Mario Draghi will meet with President Joe Biden in Washington, D.C., on 10 May.

  • WH press release states that "the leaders will discuss their ongoing coordination with Allies and partners on measures to support the people of Ukraine and to impose economic costs on Russia for its unprovoked aggression. They will discuss our close cooperation on promoting global economic prosperity, increasing Europe's energy security, and combatting climate change. They will also exchange views on regional and global security issues, as well as preparations for the G7 and NATO summits in June".
  • Italy's gov't has seemed keen to provide more heavy weaponry to Ukraine. However, as Euractiv reports, "...according to recent polls, half of Italians (48%) would prefer not to send arms to Ukraine, and only 29% of respondents agree with sending weapons." Biden likely to try to convince Draghi to stick with providing Ukraine with new weapons supplies.
