2023 Copper Production Up 12.7% From Prior Year

  • At the end of 2023, mining production as a whole reflected a significant year-on-year increase in 6 of the 8 major metals.
  • According to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Peru produced a record 2.76 million metric tons of copper in 2023. Production rose by a record 12.7%, consolidating the red metal as an essential pillar of the Peruvian economy.
  • “The results achieved were possible thanks to the contribution of companies such as Minera Las Bambas SA in Apurímac, which operated at full capacity during 2023. Likewise, the contribution of Anglo American Quellaveco in Moquegua, which managed to position itself as the fourth largest copper producer, contributing 11.6 % participation.”
