2Y Auction: Bid-to-Cover Slips After US-Driven Rally

  • Canada sold C$5.5bn of the new 3.25% Nov’26 at an average yield of 3.305%, 38bps lower than the mid-July auction.
  • The coupon of 3.25% is cut from the 4% for the May and August bonds.
  • The bid-to-cover of 2.27x shows signs of the recent slide in GoC yields after a FOMC and softer US data-driven rally (2Y GoC yields were -4bps on the day and -10bps since yesterday’s FOMC).
  • It compares to a five-auction average of 2.42x but one that has seen particular extremes including 2.085x in June (lowest since 2009) and 2.81x in early May (highest since Feb’23 and before that Sep’20).
