650kbd Dangote Refinery Set for First Crude Cargo

REFINING

The first crude cargo for Nigeria’s new 650,000 bpd Dangote refinery is on route to the refinery according to Platts market sources and vessel tracking.

  • “The OTIS tanker loaded a 950,000 barrel cargo of Nigeria's Agbami crude on Dec. 6 and is currently flagged as en route to Lekki, the nearest land port to Dangote's offshore crude receiving terminal” Platts reported.
  • It is expected to arrive Dec 7 and could indicate fuel production is about to start after numerous delays and setbacks at the refinery.
  • The project was reportedly completed in May but lacked feedstock.
  • The refinery is setup to process Escravos, Bonny Light and Forcados. Production is aimed to reduce Nigerian dependence on oil product imports.
  • Once fully operational, the plant will yield 327,000 bpd of gasoline, 244,000 bpd of gasoil/diesel, 56,000 bpd of jet fuel/kerosene, as well as 290,000 mt/year of propane/LPG Platts reported.
