EQUITIES: 8 of the 500 firms in the S&P500 are trading higher so far Wednesday,
with the index itself down just over 3%. Particular weakness today is noted in
real estate and materials sectors and the healthcare sector, while still lower
on the day, is being spared some of the losses. Notable stocks in the green are
pharmaceuticals firms, with Gilead Sciences, UnitedHealth and Eli Lilly among
the few trading higher.
- The VIX has so far failed to top yesterday's highs of 55.64, which will keep
focus on the 50-EMA support in the SPX at 2626.51 which has proved so
significant for the index in 2011, 2016 and 2018.
- European and US stocks markets have diverged slightly today, with European
indices catching up with the sharp rally seen ahead of the US close Tuesday.
European outperformance has faded since the open, with the EuroStoxx 50 just
holding in positive territory.
