A$ Bounces During APAC Session

AUD

AUDUSD has risen 0.6% during today’s session and is now trading around 0.6770 after reaching a low of 0.6717 earlier, as a result making up some of its losses from yesterday. It is still below its initial resistance of 0.6835. The USD is currently down slightly on its NY close.

  • Aussie is also higher against its crosses. AUDNZD is up 0.2% to around 1.0790 from a low of 1.0743 earlier. AUDJPY is 0.4% higher and trading about 88.50 but off its high of 88.59. The AUD is up 0.4% against the euro and 0.3% versus the pound at 0.6404 and 0.5640 respectively.
  • APAC equity markets are mixed so far today with the ASX up a solid 1.4% and the Hang Seng +1.3% but the Nikkei is down 1.5% and the CSI 300 flat. The S&P e-minis are 0.2% higher. WTI oil prices are trading sideways around $76.95/bbl. Copper is 0.6% higher, recovering some of its Tuesday losses, but iron ore is down to around $117.
  • The final Australian composite and services PMIs for December are scheduled to print on Thursday. Later today the FOMC minutes are published, as well as the December manufacturing ISM.
