A$ Holding Its Own Despite Stronger USD

MNI (Australia) - The AUD is trading up 0.1% against the USD despite DXY rising a further 0.1% during the session. AUDUSD is currently trading around 0.6740 after reaching a low of 0.6719 earlier.

  • AUDJPY have moved higher by about 0.3% to about 90.11, with the yen struggling as it becomes clear that the wider yield band is not an exit from ultra-easy monetary policy. Aussie has traded sideways versus kiwi and is around 1.073. It is up 0.1% versus EUR at 0.6332 and against GBP at 0.5602 respectively.
  • Regional equity markets are generally lower with the ASX down 0.5% after the Christmas break and the Nikkei -0.8%. WTI crude is up 0.3% to $79.80/bbl after China announced that incoming travellers will no longer need to quarantine. Iron ore has been stable around $113.00/tonne.
  • There are no data or events in Australia this week and there is only secondary data in the US.
