A lack of overt worry in the opening..........>

CHINA
CHINA: A lack of overt worry in the opening stanzas of the aforementioned press
conference from China's National Health Commission is helping to alleviate some
of the risk-off feel that was seen beforehand, with a focus on dealing with
matters in Wuhan (where the Coronavirus originated), and methods outlined. The
NCH pointed to 440 cases of Coronavirus, with 9 deaths at the last count (a
relatively subdued death/case %).
- China will be keen to deal with the outbreak in an efficient manner, and has
indirectly pushed back against any suggestions that it may be concealing the
facts. President Xi has stated that those found guilty of concealing new cases
of the disease risk being "nailed on the pillar of shame for eternity."
- One potential error in dealing with the matter to highlight was noted by a WSJ
reporter in a tweet on Tuesday: "As recently as Sunday, 40k+ families in Wuhan
got together for a massive Chinese New Year banquet - at a time when cases of
the new mysterious virus were already confirmed. The best time to prevent a
pandemic might have been lost due to such gross negligence by local officials."
