A$ Range Trading But Makes Fresh Highs Against NZD

Aussie has been range trading against the USD during APAC trading and is currently around 0.6960. It has been in a span of 0.6957/6970 The USD is slightly lower.

  • Aussie is generally flat against the major crosses with AUDJPY at 91.20, AUDEUR 0.6490 and AUDGBP 0.5775. It has gained against the kiwi as rate spreads narrow after yesterday’s more hawkish RBA statement. AUDNZD is up 0.2% to 1.1016.
  • Equity markets are mixed in the region today with the Nikkei down 0.7% but the ASX up 0.3%. S&P e-minis are down slightly at -0.2%. WTI oil prices are up 0.2% to $77.350/bbl, close to the intraday low, after reaching a high of $77.62. Copper is down 0.1% and iron ore is up to $120/t.
  • There is nothing scheduled in Australia for tomorrow with the focus now on Friday’s RBA Statement on Monetary Policy. Later today the highlight of the calendar is a number of Fed speakers.
