Africa Summit Continues, Putin Meets Leaders

  • The Russia-Africa summit continues this week, with today’s meetings for Putin including the Egyptian and Ethiopian leaders as well as Dilma Rousseff, the President of the BRICS-initiated New Development Bank.
  • Interfax reported late yesterday that the Russian President is set to be visiting both China and Turkey later this year, with a China visit likely in October. The trip would see Putin take part in China’s One Belt, One Road forum.
  • Today, the State Duma hold their final session of the spring. Follows the passing of the second reading of legislature yesterday that saw the conscription age raised to 30 years, from 27 previously. This makes for an additional 2.4mln personnel that can become potential conscripts.
