African LNG Exporters Optimistic Despite Fall in Feb Exports: Platts

Exports from Africa’s five main LNG exporters – Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Libya, and Nigeria – declined in February, although the region remains optimistic for its production outlook, Platts said.

  • Combined LNG exports from these five exporters totalled 2.67m mt in February, compared to 3m mt in January. However, January volumes were the highest since May.
  • Shipments from Nigeria were down 16% on the month after hitting a two-year high in Jan.
  • Nigeria is Africa’s largest exporter. While its NNLNG facility has been under force majeure since Oct. 2022, although the facility continues to produce and export LNG.
  • Nigeria also plans to add a seventh train to take capacity from the current 22.5m mtpa to 30m mtpa.
  • Although Libya’s LNG exports have been scarce, Platts’ analysts said that the the Gulf of Sirte's Treila well is among the most promising for 2024 or 2025.
