African LNG Exports Fall 6% in H1 2024: Platts

African LNG producers exported 20.31m mt of LNG in H1 2024, down 6% from the 21.64m mt exported over the same period in 2023, according to Platts.

  • Nigeria remained the top African LNG exporter with 7.11m mt, followed by Algeria with 6.47m mt.
  • Mozambique saw the biggest rise in exports during H1 to 1.7m mt.
  • The Republic of Congo began exporting LNG in March 2024, with a total of 120k b/d loading in H1 2024.
  • Angola’s exports fell 15% to 1.74m mt. Egypt also saw a sharp drop in its exports from 2.83m mt in H1 2023 to just 560k mt so far in 2024.
  • Egypt has become a net importer of LNG as it seeks to avoid power shortages during the summer.
