Agriculture Minister Zdenek Nekula To Be Replaced By Head Of KDU-CL Caucus

Seznam Zpravy reports that Czechia's KDU-CL decided to replace Agriculture Minister Zdenek Nekula with former leader of the party Marek Vyborny, pending the approval from the party's national committee next week.

• Nekula assumed the agriculture portfolio only a year and a half ago but decided to step down as he no longer fells support from the leadership of his party. The official announced it at a press conference but refused to comment on the details.
• Seznam Zpravy reports that KDU-CL was dissatisfied with how Nekula handled the problem of food price inflation and held a negative assessment of his efforts to promote the party's priorities.
• The candidate to replace Nekula has a stronger political mandate than the outgoing Minister. While Vyborny has no ministerial experience, he previously served as KDU-CL leader and is the current head of the party's parliamentary caucus.
• PM Petr Fiala said that he will respect KDU-CL's right to appoint a new Agriculture Minister and expressed confidence that the new Minister would help curb inflation. KDU-CL leader Zbynek Stanjura suggested that Vyborny could take office from July 1.
