Air passenger numbers are forecast to hit 5.2 billion in 2025, the first year where air travellers exceeded 5 billion, IATA said. This would be a 6.7% rise on the year.

  • Cargo volumes are expected to rise by 5.8% on the year to 72.5m mt.
  • Meanwhile, the cost of jet fuel is forecast to average $87/b in 2025 down from $99/b this year. This is based on a jet fuel crack of $12/b and a Brent crude price of $75/b.
  • Fuel is expected to account for 26.4% of operating costs in 2025, down from 28.9% in 2024.
  • However, limited quantities of SAF fuel use are expected to add $3.8 billion to industry fuel costs in 2025, up from $1.7 billion in 2024.
