ALL EYES on BoE speakers

BUNDS
  • Not since the financial crisis (GFC), that front month Sterling, a contract mainly driven by Libor fix has seen over 25 ticks swings.
  • In 2008, of course moves were over 4 big figures (see chart).
  • For the ones that experienced it,. Black Wednesday in 1992, was another date that sticks out, when the UK Government was forced to withdraw the pound sterling from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, after a failed attempt to keep the pound above the lower currency exchange limit mandated by the ERM.
  • Bund trades mainly flat since the cash open. And ALL EYES today will be on the BoE speakers, with Pills Ramsden and Tenreyro on the calendar.
  • On the data front, sees the US NFP, but given the spillovers from the UK, short term focus is on the speakers.
