Alleged Ukraine Attack from Odessa Port Threatens Grain Deal

  • Russia blames Ukraine for attacks on the Black Sea Fleet station in Sevastopol and civil infrastructure in Crimea by unmanned boats, the Defense Ministry said in an overnight Telegram statement. Unmanned boats were launched from Odessa port, which is designated for the Black Sea grain deal, the statement read. Unless extended, grain deal is to expire May 18.
  • Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will chair the UN Security Council meeting in New York, where he plans to give a news conference. Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Forum begins in Moscow. Russia will also host talks involving defense ministers from Turkey, Iran and Syria.
  • There are no major economic releases scheduled today, with industrial production data on the docket tomorrow and the CBR rate decision taking focus on Friday.
