US TSY FLOWS: Amherst Pierpont economist Stephen Stanley said today's US nonfarm
business productivity "was unrevised in Q3 at a 3.0% annual rate. A small upward
adjustment to output was matched by a similar move in the hours worked measure.
Productivity growth has shown signs of a pulse this year for the first time in a
very long time, averaging 1.5% over the past four quarters, vs. the long-running
trend of about 0.5% seen since 2011."
- He adds "we will see if that keeps up, but it is no coincidence that lighter
regulation and the prospect of a substantial corporate tax cut has been
accompanied this year by accelerations in business investment and in
productivity gains. Just what the doctor ordered for an economy that is getting
close to full employment (and thus does not need demand-side stimulus), but is
plagued by slow potential growth (and thus needs a supply-side boost)."
