AMLO Pledges More Action on Inflation

  • Mexican President AMLO says he is looking to lower Mexican CPI with measures he will explain in due course.
  • Wouldn't be the first time in this cycle Mexico's government have acted to contain prices - AMLO's comment there could be referring to the government's anti-inflation shield enacted at the beginning of May, in which retailers pledged not to increase the prices of staple goods including rice, milk and bread.
  • The programme also contained sizeable subsidies for domestic agriculture, in a bid to lessen the dependence on farming imports
