AMLO Tests Positive For Covid, MXN Remains Firm

  • Mexico’s President AMLO said he was again infected with Covid-19 after having been stricken by the virus a little under a year ago.
    • “Even though the symptoms are light, I will remain isolated and only work from the office and hold on-line meetings until further notice,” the president wrote in his social media accounts. “In the meantime, Interior Secretary Adán Augusto López Hernández will take over for me at press conferences and other events.”
  • A brief squeeze above 20.50 on the equities sell-off yesterday a brief and minor hiccup for the resilient Peso. The late recovery for major indices brings USDMXN back to familiar levels between 20.35-40.
    • Attention remains on support at 20.2517, Nov 9 low and 20.1196, Oct 26 low. The latter of which is a key support.
  • Little on the domestic docket for the rest of the week may leave local assets at the mercy of global drivers, with a clear focus on tomorrow’s US CPI data.
