ANO Leaders To Meet Wednesday, Will Discuss Babis' Fate

CZECHIA

Seznam Zpravy reports that the leaders of Czechia's main opposition ANO party will convene Wednesday to discuss the outcome of the recent presidential election amid speculation that Andrej Babis could give up his parliamentary seat.

  • "It is up to him [to decide whether to quit parliament]. I will certainly not invite him to do so. He has to decide for himself whether he wants to stay or not," said head of ANO's parliamentary caucus Alena Schillerova.
  • Should Babis quit parliament, he would be replaced by Kamila Blahova, who currently serves as the Mayor of Litvinov. She refused to confirm to Seznam Zpravy whether she would be ready to become an MP.
  • An iROZHLAS poll of ANO lawmakers showed that most of them continue to support their leader, albeit some high-profile party officials have broken ranks and openly criticised Babis for his performance in the presidential race.
