Anti-PM Parties Maintain Maj In Polls, But No Clear Gov't Post-Election

ISRAEL

Latest opinion polls ahead of the 23 March general election show that parties categorically opposed to working with PM Bejnamin Netanyahu continue to hold a prospective majority, but that does not mean a cohesive gov't can necessarily be formed after the vote.

  • Kantar seat projection: Likud (Conservative, pro-Netanyahu): 29, Yesh Atid (Liberal, anti-Netanyahu): 18, New Hope (Conservative, anti-Netanyahu): 13 (-1), Yamina (Right, 'kingmaker'): 11 (-2), Joint List (Left, anti-Netanyahu): 9, Shas (Haredi, pro-Netanyahu): 8, United Torah Judaism (Haredi, pro-Netanyahu) 7, Yisrael Beiteinu (Right, anti-Netanyahu) 7 (+1), Labor (Centre-left, anti-Netanyahu): 6 (-1), Meretz (Green, anti-Netanyahu): 4 (+4), Blue and White (Liberal, anti-Netanyahu): 4, Religious Zionist Party (Right, pro-Netanyahu): 4 (-1). +/- vs. 09/02/21. Fieldwork: 23/02/21. Sample Size: 550
  • Pro-Netanyahu parties: 48, Anti-Netanyahu Parties: 61, Kingmaker (Yamina): 11. 61 seats are required for a majority in the Knesset.
  • While anti-Netanyahu parties hold a slim majority, they do not form a workable majority coalition. Parties as diametrically opposed as the right-wing Zionist Yisrael Beiteinu and the Arab-interest Joint List would have zero prospect of working together, even if the intention was to keep Netanyahu from power.
