Appalachian Basin Gas Output hit Four-Month High as MVP Flows Rise

NATGAS

The start-up of long-term shipping contracts on the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) July 1 is already boosting gas transmissions on the new line, further supporting the rebound in Appalachian production, Platts said.

  • Flows through MVP’s interconnection to Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line have risen significantly in July.
  • Deliveries to the connecting interstate Cherrystone compressor station in Virginia have averaged 990 mcf/d – up from 710 Mcf/d in late June, Platts added.
  • Higher utilisation on the MVP is also boosting gas production from the Appalachian Basin.
  • Output from the Marcellus and Utica shales jumped to an estimated 35 Bcf/d, the highest level since late Feb.
  • Recent production gains come after EQT brings deferred production back online. It had previously announced plans to cut output by 1 bcf/d in response to low prices.
