UK DATA: April Retail Sales Steady; Q1 Revised Slightly Higher
- UK Apr retail sales unchanged m/m, +5.2% y/y, tops forecasts
- UK Q1 retail sales +1.7% q/q vs +1.6% previously reported
- UK Apr non-fuel sales -0.2% m/m, +4.9% y/y
- UK Apr deflator +0.2% y/y vs +0.7% in Mar, lowest since Nov 2016

Retail sales volumes exceeded expecations in April, recording no growth 
over March. However, analysts surveyed by MNI had expected a retreat 
after an upwardly-revised 1.2% jump in March. Q1 sales were revised 
higher to show a 1.7% gain, up from the 1.6% increase reported last 
month, but the upgrade will have no effect on later iterations of GDP, 
according to an ONS official. Retail prices rose by an annual rate of 
just 0.2% in April, dampened by Easter promotions.
