ARGENTINA: Lower House To Discuss Milei’s Education Bill Veto

ARGENTINA
  • The lower house of congress is scheduled to hold a special session starting at 1500BST(1000ET) to discuss President Milei’s veto of a bill that would have raised salaries at public universities, according to the lower house’s website.
  • Separately, Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced on X that President Milei has ordered the closure of some branches of state-run bank Banco de la Nacion in municipalities imposing unjustified municipal taxes.
  • No domestic macro data are due today, following yesterday’s activity figures, which showed a 6.9% y/y decline in IP in August and 26.4% y/y drop in construction activity. Focus now turns to tomorrow’s September CPI data, which are expected to show a moderation in monthly inflation to 3.6% m/m, from 4.2% in August, on the back of the one-off impact of the PAIS import tax reduction and the expected deceleration in regulated prices.
