Asian Gasoline Imports Rise Amid Refinery Outages

Gasoline imports by Asian nations are more than normal so far in June with the 15 nation region importing 14% more than the five-year seasonal average at around 1.2mbpd according to Kpler data via Bloomberg.

  • Tight supplies have driven the prompt time spread for 92-RON gasoline in Asia to the widest level since April at 2$/bbl according to Bloomberg.
  • Imports into countries including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and South Korea were 56% above seasonal averages at 622kbpd.
  • The higher volumes were driven by refinery maintenance in the region and unplanned outages such as at Viva Energy’s Geelong facility.
  • Gasoline exports from China remain low but could recover post-maintenance, with a rising portion heading towards Mexico according to Vortexa.
