Asian Jet Fuel Near-Term Demand to Remain Slow: Platts

JET FUEL

Asian jet fuel demand is expected to remain sluggish for the remainder of 2023, amid falling travel demand and higher export volumes from China, according to Platts.

  • "Sentiment is quite weak – while China's exports of the other two products [gasoil and gasoline] are less, jet fuel is holding steady to higher at least until October so that is adding some pressure in the market," a Singapore-based trader told Platts.
  • Despite an expectation that China’s product export volumes will fall in the final months of the year – to 1.4m mt in November, down 26.3% from October's - this is unlikely to tighten the Asian jet fuel market, instead just removing excess length, Platts’ sources said.
  • In the longer term, Platts’ industry sources said the outlook for the Asian jet fuel market remains positive as air travel patterns continue to normalize into 2024. Chinese exports are also expected to be lower, which will be supportive on the demand side.
