Asian LNG Prices Fall to Lowest Since 2021

LNG

North Asian spot LNG prices have reached a near three-year low, amid milder weather, healthy stockpiles, and robust global supply.

  • The JKM stands at $8.29/MMBtu, the lowest since April 2021, down 16% on the month.
  • Sources told Bloomberg that there is ample global supply, amid high storage levels at the end of peak winter and stronger exports from Australia, Nigeria, and the UAE.
  • JKM is now down around 90% from its record in March 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
  • The falling prices will likely spur demand in price-sensitive markets, such as India and China. At current levels, LNG becomes competitive against alternative fuels in these regions.
