Asian LPG Imports Surging

Asia’s LPG imports in October are on-track to surpass September’s highs of 6.34mt according to Vortexa, driven by stronger imports into China, Indonesia and India.

  • The first 20 days of the month saw the region importing 4.4mt of LPG and the full month is projected to reach 6.8mt if this momentum continues.
  • Demand is being driven by an uptick in China's PDH plant utilisation rates as margins turn positive, as well as increased city gas to LPG switching in India's residential sector with growing LPG discounts to natural gas and lower domestic production in Indonesia due to refinery maintenance.
