Assistant Governor Chayawadee Chai-anant Flags Worry About Sticky Core Inflation

Bank of Thailand Assistant Governor Chayawadee Chai-anant said that the central bank is worried about sticky core inflation, which may remain high for some time, posing a key risk for this year and next.

  • The official said that the central bank wants core inflation to stabilise at the current level or decline. He added that future interest-rate decisions will depend on data and the economic outlook.
  • This comes after Deputy Governor Mathee Supapongse said that the BoT will likely keep gradually normalising its monetary policy to build room to deal with potential inflation flare-up.
