FED: Atlanta Fed leader Raphael Bostic wraps up comments to an Atlanta Consular
Corps meeting. Highlights:
* He predicts his region in Southeast USA might help show lessons on Covid. "I
think we're going to have more and faster learning here in the Southeast than in
other places because the opening up is happening more rapidly here."
* He says that the labor market is undergoing "structural changes." Bostic says
restaurant owners tell him that the industry is "going through a significant
restructuring" and that maybe 20% to 30% of restaurants will not reopen. He also
adds that telehealth will significantly increase. "That kind of shuffling around
is going to have implications for the number of jobs you're going to need in
particular sectors and the types of jobs within each sector."
* Bostic says "there still are pockets of our communities that have not gotten
relief" from Covid-19, but "one thing I've pledged to do and have been doing is
trying to make sure that wherever we see weak spots or places where people are
still struggling as a result of the public health response then we be aware of
that and figure out what the best course of action is to find relief."
