Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow Lowered To 2.7% In Final Q1 Estimate

US DATA
  • The Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow was revised down to 2.7% from the 2.9% with the Apr 16 update for Q1 real GDP growth.
  • Latest revisions: personal consumption from 3.5% to 3.3%, gross private domestic investment from 3.7% to 3.5%.
  • This the final update before tomorrow’s Q1 advance. Bloomberg consensus sees a 2.5% estimate for relatively little difference between the two estimates after the GDPNow has outperformed analysts in recent quarters.
  • It follows two particularly strong quarters after 4.9% in Q3 and 3.4% in Q4.
  • The Atlanta Fed estimates that a large part of the moderation from the 3.4% in Q4 is net exports, seen dragging -0.5pps from GDP growth vs the +0.25pp contribution in Q4.
