ATM Approaches High Court Over No-Confidence Vote in Ramaphosa & His Cabinet

  • ATM party to approach the Western Cape High court today to have the motion of no-confidence against Ramaphosa (30 March) held via secret ballot. In Feb the House Speaker rejected this request, but ATM has said that MPs must be protected from their parties in order to vote with their conscience.
    • Another motion of no-confidence in Ramaphosa’s Cabinet is set for the same day – IOL News. These are the first no-confidence motions in Ramaphosa or his cabinet in 4 years, but are unlikely to succeed due to the ANC’s dominance in parliament
  • ANC leaders endorse Ramaphosa’s bid to reform the party and take a tougher stance on corruption following the weekend NEC meeting. This comes as the party prepared for its elective conference in December in the wake of the release of the Zondo report. – BusinessDay
  • State-owned Russian gas supplier, Gazprombank, has confirmed that it is considering a bid for what may be a multibillion-rand contract for South Africa to secure natural gas.
    • If awarded, the contract would raise questions on whether the need for gas is influencing South Africa’s stance on Russia’s war and invasion of Ukraine.
    • The CEF released a tender In February, looking for a gas aggregator for various gas-to-power projects planned for the Coega special economic zone in the Eastern Cape. - Daily Maverick
